Actions to promote equal opportunities for male and female delegates at the ECM35
Following the initiatives established in the last three ECM meetings (Oviedo, Vienna and Versailles) and feedback from the organizing committees of these meetings, we have put into place a number of actions to promote women in crystallography and ensure, as far as possible, equal opportunities for male and female delegates at ECM35 in Poznań.
Taking in account the statistics of attendance and speaker balance from previous ECM meetings furnished by previous organizers, we strive to construct a program in which:
The two plenary lectures will be given by one male and one female scientist
Efforts will be made in order to obtain that in microsymposia at least 40% of presentations will be given by women scientists.
IUCr criteria for gender balance will be applied in selecting bursaries for young scientists attending the meeting.
IUCr Scientific Freedom Policy Statement
The Organizing Committee of ECM34 shall observe the basic policy of non-discrimination that affirms the right and freedom of scientists to associate in international scientific activity without regard to such factors as ethnic origin, religion, citizenship, language, political stance, gender, sex or age, in accordance with the Statutes of the International Council for Science. At this Congress, no barriers will exist which would prevent the participation of bona fide scientists. (General Assembly of the International Union of Crystallography, 2014)
